October 2018

VCS Members,

On September 18, our first 2018 Fall session at Windsor Park, (over 30) VSC members voted on the 2019 Paint - Out Venue, and favoured

Cowichan Bay --- Ocean Front Suites
from September 8-15, 2019.

Thank you, Myra Baynton, for researching all the options.

The following is a summary of the EC Briefing by Larry Gollner
presented on September 18:

*VSC Name Change Poll:
A POLL will be conducted to decide if our club wishes to have a NAME CHANGE or not. You will be contacted by the Secretary. The deadline for your input will be Tuesday, October 16, 2018. During the Extraordinary General Meeting, planned for December 4, there will be a vote on the three top suggestions, if indeed the poll indicates the membership wishes to have a change of name. You are encouraged to cast your vote.

*Venue for 2019 Show
Because of construction at the site of GLN, the Gym might not be available for the 2019 Show, however we are grateful we have other options offered to us, such as the use of the Rattenbury House, Library and Hallway for our exhibition.
The show will be from March 19-24, 2019.

*Annual Membership Fee Increase
In 2019 there will be an increase in our club membership fee.

Message from Peter Marcetta, the VSC Summer En Plein Air Organizer

Peter wishes to thank all who participated in the En Plein Air sessions and also those who filled out the evaluation and provided very useful information.

We visited 17 sites this year and were fortunate that none of our outings were cancelled due to bad weather. Our average attendance was 12.
Handing out evaluations at the closing lunch certainly helped with feedback.
I received 26 returns in total; twenty were filled out evaluations, some with additional comments and suggestions and the other 6 were just comments and suggestions. All of the comments were positive and the suggestions for future locations were helpful.

The feedback from this year's sites is as follows:
Wishing to return to site,
80% - Government House Gardens
75% - Finnerty Gardens
70% - Mary Lake Sanctuary
70% - Beacon Hill Park
70% - Saxe Point Park
65% - Kinsman Gorge Park
60% - Oak Bay Marina
60% - Michell's Farm and Island View Beach
50% - Ann Bowen's Garden
50% - Fisherman's Wharf
50% - Oak Bay Village
40% - Ross Bay Cemetery and Dallas Waterfront
35% - Heritage Acres/ Saanich Historical Artifacts
30% - Ogden Point
30% - China Town
30% - Christ Church Cathedral
20% - Church of Our Lord

All in all a successful year and some good objective information to build on.

Cheers,
Peter
